HURT: A Different Opinion on KANYE WEST

This is NOT me "taking his side."
(Frankly though, Kanye, Candice and Hershel have the right to whatever opinion they want. And there are millions of Black people that arrive at conservative choices for very intelligent reasons and from very valid pain caused by those we would consider liberal.)

While many of my friends are gloating and quick to call Kanye West many unimaginative names. I just pray that Kanye West has a lot of life to live.
Some people (not throwing shade) are lucky that the camera phone and 24 hour news cycle didn't exist when we/they were working through their HURT.
Many of us also had people that could tell us to just CALM THAT BS DOWN...

My father passed away 10 years ago and my own family rarely sees the hurt I still try and manage alone. I could not imagine having the display the many ways my father's passing has changed me as well as the mistakes I have made since Dad's been gone, broadcast on TV and social media.
I have personally not held Kanye to account since his mom passed....and now because of mostly his own bad choices ...he is no longer a full time dad.....
He's got a lot of hurt to process...

Maybe you do too or have had to process hurt.
If you have?
Extend the grace that you needed to Mr. West.
And if you haven't?
Thank God because you are blessed.

What's Your Opinion?
We'd Like To Know.

The Light's Movie Of The Week....

 LIFE WITH MIKEY

Starring Michael J Fox and Christina Vidal
released 1993

In 1993 Michael J Fox had wrapped his last Back To The Future film and left Family Ties (the TV show) behind.

Fox was still a huge star and did a little New York film that seemed like it would be too small or pedestrian for the box office giant.

Life With Mikey was however a great tribute to Fox's life as a child star and all child stars.

In the film he plays a former child star...now washed up and running a talent agency for children hoping to be stars.

Fox's character runs into Christina Vidal as Angie Vega and a classic is born.

I love films like Life With Mikey for several reasons.

One because life the motion picture Fame...the hunger for the young people to make their way as performers is so vibrant you can taste the hunger and hear it's heart beating.

Also like Fame...the city of New York is a character itself.

Life With Mikey is a fairy tale but in this one...we see all the people that will never get to live in a castle but they still are working to get to the ball.

The film goes from funny to heart breaking to heart warming scene after scene.
The film shows that every performer has a family that truly loves them whether they are a star or hope to be star.

On a scale of 1-10. I rate Life With Mikey a solid 7....and in fact it's a favorite of mine...as far as making me happy? Life With Mikey gets 10 out of 10 easy.

Actress Loretta Swit's Command Performance in STARS and STRIPES

People that know me , know that I have loved M.A.S.H since high school.

Mostly I watched for another look at war. A civil, thinking man's look at war. Tonight, I just saw the episode STARS and STRIPES. A wonderful Loretta Swit episode.

Ironically, it is not a episode I could have grasped in highschool but as a man of my age.... I identify too closely to finding love/comfort only to to have history/morals/ambition complicate things. In this episode Ms. Swit delivers one of the best television performances I have ever seen. I have seen this episode before...but watching it tonight...hit me for the first time. I don't know if she ever won an Emmy for Stars and Stripes...But she has my vote.

 LONG OVER DUE...IDEA

Spider-Senses will be tingling across New York City as The New York Public Library (NYPL) and Marvel Entertainment join forces to release a special, limited-edition Spider-Man library card on October 11 to inspire new and existing patrons to explore a multitude of free books, resources, and programs at the Library, including Marvel graphic novels. This dynamic collaboration—which debuts just in time for New York Comic Con—marks the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man’s first comic book appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 and emphasizes the importance of reading, knowledge, and libraries to Peter Parker’s crime-fighting comic book adventures. Images of Spider-Man—alongside Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, two other iconic web-slingers—will be featured on the card, as well as on upcoming banners outside the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building and the windows of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL), exciting patrons of all ages to tap into the unique power of reading, comics, and libraries to discover their inner super hero. Details about the card and related activities are available online: nypl.org/beyondamazing

The launch of the special-edition card also marks the start of the Library’s Open House week, which begins October 11. The card
will be available to new and current patrons free on a first-come, first-serve basis at all NYPL branches, located throughout the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. “Reading is a superpower—one that provides everyone with the ability to learn, to be inspired, and understand the world more fully,” said New York Public Library President Anthony W. Marx. “At The New York Public Library we remain dedicated to providing books and resources that help New Yorkers reach new heights and working with Marvel on this exciting, limited-edition Spider-Man card reinforces the exceptional accomplishments people can achieve when they have access to information. Raymond The Closer and The Furious 5

 5 TV Shows Or Movies

I Would Love To Write as a Imagined Series

First things first. Out of all the reboots and re imagined TV-Films most are horrible and are garbage.

For every Star Trek and Wonder Years and Star Wars , there all too many TV Shows that are not so much updated as watered down.

In the case of the shows and one film I have listed. I do not want the original shows updated so much as new stories told and in some cases..the titles and foundations can change for the better.

So remember these are my picks for shows that I would acquire rights too, produce and write for tomorrow if I was rich enough to.

5.
BARNEY MILLER

I would call the show
"The 12th Precinct"

The show would take place right in the same place.
The first day would be Barney already retired taking out
Captain Stanely Wojciehowicz
for lunch on his last day at "The Ole One-Two"
Woj had turned down several opportunities to be an Inspector like Lugar and like Barney went on the be.
Woj always considered the 12th his home.
What I will say is that at the end of the episode the bright and cool kind of "Ron Harris" detective
Steve "The Kid" Reese knows that he's going to sit in a Captain's chair. What we find out is that Reese is going to Manhattan  South. And coming in with donuts and home made coffee is the new 12th's Captain...Mrs. Captain Dee Yemana-Miller. No relation to Barney but Nick Yemana's grand daughter.

4.

Twilight Zone

Yeah. I know. Nothing is better than the original.
But!
Sometimes The Original Missed Too...
The Bewitchin Pool? YUCK

And we also learned The TZ works best in a half hour format...the one hour format is garbage.
Listen whether you call it Black Mirror of Twilight Zone 23.
Great Science Fiction has to progress and it's writers should have a platform that can be appreciated.

The New Twilight Zone from the 1980's gave us this short but sweet classic that would have also been great on Serling's follow up NIGHT GALLERY.

3.
ROOM 222

Spoiler Alert: Room 222 has been done over and over and elements borrowed, sampled and stolen.

So my version would be some 222, some Welcome Back Kotter, some Boston Public some A Different world.

If I do it right people would want to teach again, respect teachers and want to go to college.
They would laugh and learn.

2.
FAME

Now when I saw Fame. I do not mean that watered down 80's TV version. I have not seen 10 minutes of any episode.
I mean the gritty, sober but amazing film version.

I would write a rated R series that would make the watchers always remember what 17 feels, sounds and tastes like. Especially when you are struggling to be a voice in this world.

I might write the first season as Freshman Year 1992/2022.
Run two stories set some 200 years apart. Because if you were an adult in the 1990's...you forget that was actually 30 years ago.

1.
SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS

This would never work but that's why it would.
I would have a 2 block every Saturday/Sunday.
A half hour of new stories featuring Pop Eye, The Jackson 5, Super Man and other Saturday Morning Classics. A Half Hour of new exclusive Saturday Morning Cartoon ideas. A half hour educational show. And end the block with a half hour show like Wonderama where kids get cool gifts and meet cool people who talk about what they were like as kids. And they can send in their video clips.
No one would enjoy the process of making the actual content more than me.
The first 3 years would be Saturday Morning exclusive and some streaming. Year, I would allow after school syndication if the market was there.

Jo Jo Dancer: Your Life Is Calling You

 Respect Due

Spoiler Alert: The Film Jo Jo Dancer Your Life Is Calling You is Richard Pryor's  own personal account of his life experience.

I hear that year after year people want to make a biopic film about Richard Pryor. I have my doubts that it would hit the right notes...the real notes...the emotional notes that Jo Jo Dancer hits.

I have no faith that they want to make a new film for any reason but money.

No film about Pryor can be as profound because in Jo Jo Dancer, Pryor plays opposite himself trying to come to peace with family, life and past mistakes.

In that regard ... "We are all Jo Jo Dancer/Richard Pryor."

As I watch this film which I recall as one of the newer films that I love...two things hit me hard.

One-That such a very short time ago...we could love on Billy Eckstine , Paula Kelly and many of the other actors that have passed away.

Two- I often recall Richard Pryor as giant because of his talent. Jo Jo Dancer remind me of the high high high hurdles of racism he and his generation had to jump so that I could be what I am today.

Jo Jo Dancer: Your Life Is Calling You is free on Tubi TV...
